Reflective Journal Post 1: PBB Fiasco

I'm not really a PBB fan, I don't even watch it but this entry would be about the PBB issue. Honestly, I'm annoyed about the whole thing that's why I chose to write about it for my reflective journal. I just don't get it why people are so affected with the people trapped inside that house when they are not even related to them and they talk about it, 24/7 like it's a national issue or something relevant in they're own lives. What irritates me the most is that even at home, my family talks about it NON-STOP. Argh. And so, because of them I'm also updated about the happenings inside 'the Bahay ni Kuya'. I heard about the recent issue about the email regarding the votes being altered and stuff, and that Cristy Fermin was the one who blurted out the so-called, 'truth'. And after reporting such news, they would take back they're word then deny it. Why would a 'Kapamilya' employee do such a thing? She would risk her own source of bread and butter and credibility just for the sake of revealing the truth? Oh c'mon! That would be bullshit. Why would ABS-CBN let such an incident happen and reveal such vital information if they know that it would be harmful to them? That's like committing suicide for the entire company. It was discussed in our CA class that media is always bias. And in this situation, I can say that it really is. On the surface, people may say that the whole issue may have caused danger for the show and the company but underneath there's a purpose for this outbreak. This news instensified the intrigues, causing more and more controversies; making the show more interesting for the viewers. The more issues, the more people talk about it. And then they say that people should vote wisely and that people vote 'to save' a housemate not to eliminate. But they keep this Wendy girl in the big four, to trigger conflicts inside the house. But the people wants her out, of course what should the people do? VOTE. And who earns loads of money whenever the people vote, the company ABS-CBN. As discussed in class, media always has a reason - a purpose for showing something. They didn't let this news out just for nothing or they want to ruin the public's trust in them, there's a hidden agenda. There's a reason behind all this, and I can say that the people behind this are really smart enough to pull off such gimmick, smart enough to play tricks with the people's minds. This only shows that this business really requires a creative mind and the whole issue only proves how powerful media can be, it can really alter the people's beliefs... even change lives. All I hope is that, the people in this business would use the power that they have in order to improve the people's lives not only to improve their own. And that the viewers would be critical enough to judge what to believe and follow.
